The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in therapy has rapidly expanded in recent years, providing new opportunities and challenges in the mental health field. This paper explores the impact of AI on therapeutic practices, with a focus on the human-centred aspects of therapy. It examines how AI-enhanced tools can support therapists by improving diagnosis, streamlining administrative tasks, and facilitating personalized treatment plans. However, the core therapeutic relationship remains irreplaceable, with AI best serving as an adjunct rather than a substitute for human therapists. The paper delves into the ethical, practical, and emotional implications of AI in therapy, emphasizing the importance of empathy, trust, and human connection. It also provides a critical analysis of AI's role in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, and mental health interventions, arguing that while AI offers significant benefits, the therapeutic relationship's integrity must remain intact.
